170th Post (A Short Story)
In the moonlit misty darkness.
A broken swing creaks.
Nearby.
Lies broken bottles.
Of time immemorial.
A lone boy.
Sits on the broken swing.
In a stance of silent misery.
Nearby on a rusty bench.
Sits a girl.
Who is lost in her own dreamy world.
But suddenly.
A gunshot rings out.
Causing the girl's body to jerk back into reality.
As her lifeblood drains.
She can only stare.
And wonder.
What has she done to deserve this?
The boy.
Meanwhile.
Stunned into shocked silence.
Can only sit there.
And watch.
As she slumps onto the bench.
A single slug slowly snuffs out her life.
But he recovers after a minute.
As he rushes over.
Screaming out her name.
He drops to his knees.
He cradles her now almost lifeless body.
Covered in her blood.
In her final words.
She whispered to him.
How much she had loved him.
But never had the courage to tell him that.
And with that.
She closes her eyes for the last time.
Remorse and guilt immediately fills the boy.
Many times.
He attempted suicide.
But he fails.
As he sits in a dark shadowy corner of the bar.
Drinking.
He wonders why.
Why has all his suicide attempts fail.
But one night.
As he lies in bed.
In another one of his alcohol induced sleep.
The girl appeared to him in his dream.
And told him this.
"In all your attempts.
It was me that intervened.
For it saddens me to see you this way.
Do you want to see me sad?
The girl who had loved you in silence."
And immediately.
He woke up.
Great sobs racked his body.
Regrets filled his soul.
And so.
He swore to change his lifestyle.
Weeks passed.
Months passed.
And one night.
She appeared to him in his dreams again.
And she told him this.
"Finally you have changed for the better.
I can finally and truly rest in peace.
I am sorry that i can no longer be your guardian angel.
But i will still watch for you from the heavens above."
And with those last words.
She faded away from his dreams.
He woke up.
And cried like never before.
For he knows.
He will never see her again.
But yet.
He knows.
For her.
He must carry on living.
And so he sits down.
And writes out a promise to her.
To live a happy life.
For the rest of his life.
Moral: Treasure what you have now.
Love your loved ones with all your heart and soul.
For life is very unpredictable.
As we will never know.
When its our time to go.
