Another day to pass. Even though yesterday was the day that i officially turn 26, but well, no celebration. I prefer to let it pass quietly. I wonder, do you find that your birthday gets less and less special as you grow older ? i do. It's just another reminder that i am another year older and another year to approaching the day that i die. So, i guess it's no big deal that i let my birthday pass quietly. A big thank you for those that remembered and sent me wishes via mIRC, MSN, SMS and friendster. For those that don't remember, doesn't matter, because you each have your own lives, and remembering my birthday is too much of a memory hassle.
Ever since i started mIRC-ing in 1993, i noticed drastic changes in the channels that i support and park. Gone are the days of informal chatting and hooking up with new friends. Instead it's all about sex, sex and more sex. Guys looking for girls on mIRC hoping that they will land a pretty one and then bed her for the night and then toss her aside. Guys, what were you thinking ? if you want to hook a girl, polish up your mannerisms 1st. Go clubbing or something. It takes real big balls to actually want to chat with a girl face to face. And for that, i take my hat off you. Sometimes the way i look at it, i feel ashamed to be a guy. Because all it takes is one despo to ruin the reputation of all the guys that uses mIRC to chat. Sometimes i see people posting, "Aiya, why no girls around? so sian." Well, blame those despos for chasing the girls off.
Another change i notice in mIRC is that the quarrels get more and more frequent. Are the people in there that bored that they need to pick a quarrel? why not do it face to face ? Why not go to a club and pick out some random guy or girl to start a quarrel ? Sometimes i do not understand the seeds that sowed the plants of quarrels. I mean, it's just a bloody small thing. Why make such a big hoo-ha out of it? Especially channel access matters. Whats so big a deal about access ? is it going to kill you if you do not have operator status ? Will you suffer in agony if you cannot kick and ban that irritating person? If one doesn't like the channel politics, one can always remove oneself from the channel and stop supporting it. Sometimes i see that friendships are born and broken out of one thing. and that is access level to the particular channel. And most of the channel moderators i observed are just slightly above redundant and useless. i wonder, what is the point of giving the person channel access so that he can become a channel moderator, when end of the day he/she is not doing what should be expected of channel moderators ? And that lies in the responsibilities of the channel owners. Channel owners should ensure that the moderators are doing they job, and in case the owners are not around, a assistant channel owner should be appointed.
Another question i want to raise is "Why are some users so sensitive over what others type ?" That's another area where quarrels arise. why can't others just say one text line less or take it to PM (Private message) why spoil the mood of other chatters ? why involve other chatters into the quarrel? Those are some of the points that i am curious and until now, i still cannot find the reasons for it. bottom line is, it's just text only, why bother so much ? Honestly, i think it takes big balls to just walk away from a quarrel, and i respect that. Of course, most will think it's an act of being "humji" or what, but well, i just don't want to stoop to that level, and also to avoid spoiling the mood of others, which i think it's rather unfair. Sadly, most people do not take time to analyze the text that is being on their screen and jump to conclusion, and thus another seed for the plant of quarrels have been sown. Neither do people think before they type. Yeah, we all type some text, have a good laugh, but what about the poor fool that fails to see the joke ? And there we go again. Gone are the yesteryear of having a good time in mIRC. Some quit mIRC never to be seen again, bcause of the fool that fails to think before typing.
Of couse, you may be wondering what i am trying to drive at. Well, i am trying to just merely point out the dangers of text mis-interpretation. And it's also because of this, Quarrels arise.
Well, with this final paragraph, i leave you with these thoughs :Do you bother to think before you speak (or in this case, type) ? No matter how fast the screen is moving, do you take time out to think and analyze, Is it worth to quarrel over this issue or not ?
but at the end of the day, the biggest question you have to ask yourself : "Is it worth losing a close friend over what was eventually a small issue?"
